WLPS Applications
1.
Bi-directional point-to-point protection using 1x2 WDM Light Path Protection
Switch (WLPS)
- Bi-directional 1:1 Point-to-point protection
- Splitters and photo diodes (not shown) inside the 1x2 WLPS are used for monitoring the signal level
- Patent Pending proprietary monitor methodology to eliminate Near-end Crosstalk (NeXT) due to reflection
- Designed to work in pair with matching wavelength
When the primary path is damaged
or cut, WLPS will switch the traffic to the protection path.
2.
Bi-directional point-to-point protection using 2x2 Crossover WDM Light
Path Protection Switch (Crossover WLPS)
• Simultaneous monitoring
of both primary and protection paths
• Increase efficiency by better utilization of protection path
• Accommodate traffic of different priorities
• The status of the protection fiber can be monitored
When the primary path
is damaged or cut, WLPS will switch the traffic to the protection path.
High priority traffic is, therefore, restored while low priority traffic
is dropped.
3.
Bi-directional WDM Ring protection using 2x2 Crossover WLPS and Bridge
WDM Light Path Protection Switch (Bridge-WLPS)
• Switching is automatic
among WLPS with no in-band or out-of-band signaling required.
• Node extensions allow additional traffic on protection fibers
When primary path between the two nodes is damaged or cut, both Crossover
WLPS will simultaneously detect the problem path and restore the high
priority traffic to the protection path. At this moment, extension nodes
will automatically loop-back their low priority traffic so that the traffic
between the extension nodes will be dropped.
